Considerations for raising our Bettas. Part II "Raising"

I begin this post with a very personal opinion as I have seen as they develop new mutations that do not end up settling and that worries me greatly.

For rearing, there are again some simple rules that must be respected. The most important basis of any breeding program are the basic colors, basic bettas. Any mutation can improve getting the classic. Avoid crossing between mutations. At the end of the day is just a transfer of the gene and can transmit the defects as well. Mating between mutations is possible but should be avoided wherever possible.

have to take the time to see breeding Bettas Show Quality. Only then you will recognize what a good betta (ie good color and good shape). Try to improve the species, because the world is full of extremely rare animals from the best sites you trust and who are currently in animal shelters.

Keep separate lines

NEVER but NEVER crosses that appear phenotypically recessive genes only in the presence of the same gene. After the results are mutations.

Recall that a mutation is a change in a gene that can be potentially transmitted.

have seen too many experiences and results with other farmers where there is a fairly rapid degeneration of new mutations, compared with the old mutations. In crosses of these mutations have been found small animals, increased incidence of skin problems, tumors, eye opáceos by further complicating the picture wanting to work with each mutation.

can perfectly pair mutations, but be careful that there are basic genes intermediate to go cleaning up all such problems. I think as responsible individuals, we must bear in mind that our ultimate goal is always to keep fish healthy and strong and "strong" does not mean only that it is big, strong and vigorous.

Take your time when choosing a Betta to work.

must remember that a fish fry or too young may change as the months pass. Indeed, the true potential of a Betta often can only be viewed from about 5-7 months, until then, you will find no real flaws or strengths in your Betta. Also do not forget that you should not play not too early to affect the health of your players, the growth of the next generation and make sure you have not chosen the wrong partner in your Betta.
